Elbert A. Steinsieck

Elbert A. Steinsieck, 86, of Golconda, died, April 14, 2016, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Metropolis.

He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Waterloo, son of the late Albert and Nora Steinsieck (nee Altoff).

He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years, where he specialized as a weather observer technician.

During Elbert’s time in the service he toured France, Germany and Vietnam while receiving the Vietnam Service Medal, Expeditionary Medal and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant.

Elbert was on the Shawnee Development Council Board, and was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Air Force Sergeant Association.

Along with spending time with the family, Elbert loved to read and play with his two dogs and two cats.

Elbert is survived by his wife, Darlene Steinsieck of Golconda; step-son Chuck (Angie) Nicol of Golconda; sisters Ruby (Roland) Muench  of Steeleville, and Jo Ann Yarborgh of Red Bud; grandchildren, Christina (Sean Cavan) Willard, Michael (Jess) Willard, and Kimberly Willard; two great-grandchildren, Lauran Willard, and Gavis Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Erna Steinsieck, and daughter, Evelyn Willard-Parton.

A memorial service will be May 7, at 1 p.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Golconda, Pastor Benjamin Holt officiating.

Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Rock Community, located in Pope County.

Military funeral honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9227, American Legion Post 719 and Scott Air Force Base Honor Guard.
