Edwin B. “Eddie” Braun, 93, of Red Bud, died at his home surrounded by his family on Jan. 19, 2016, in Red Bud.

He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Hecker, son of the late William E. and Eleanor Braun (nee Schilling).

Eddie was a former owner of Ed Braun Truck Service, former owner of Braun Country Style Meats and a lifetime farmer. He loved growing and grafting walnut and pecan trees, and he enjoyed hunting.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on Peleliu Island in the Pacific. He was a life member of the Red Bud VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Braun (nee Laurent); children Dennis Lee (Donna) Braun, Ronald (Mary) Braun, Gerald Braun, Donna (Michael) Mollet, David (Mary) Braun, Richard Braun (Carla Wirth), Elaine (Dennis) Krebel, and Sandra (Dennis) Melliere; grandchildren Christopher Braun, Casey (Jonathan) Koester, Kurt Braun, Keith Braun (Kaitlan Schoenbeck), Jamie (Pat) Carroll, Jarrod (Jennifer) Braun, Kyle Krebel, Julie Krebel, Brandon Melliere (Erica Struckhoff), and Stefanie Melliere; great-grandchildren Olivia Koester, Parker Koester, Katelynn, William, and Spencer Braun, and Amelia and Evie Carroll; brother Joseph (Leona) Braun; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Hildegard Cook, Mary Lauer and Loretta Schmidt; and brothers Herman Braun and Albert Braun.

Private family services were held Jan. 21, at Quernheim Funeral Home, Waterloo.

He was interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, with full military honors.

As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to CELTIC Hospice Care.
