Doris Jean Forgy

Doris Jean Forgy (nee McElwain), 85, of Waterloo, formerly of Cahokia, died Feb. 26, 2016, at Oak Hill in Waterloo, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Penrod, Ky., daughter of the late Andrew and Edith McElwain (nee Wood).

Mrs. Forgy was a lifelong member of New Testament Baptist Church in Waterloo, where she was a Sunday school teacher and secretary for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Forgy; her son Gary Forgy; and her parents.

Surviving are her children, Gail (Fred) McClure of Herrin, Pete (Mary) Forgy of Waterloo, Marla (Mark) Schweigert of Waterloo, Don (Doris) Forgy of Mendota, Debbie (Dan) Hartmann of St. Clair, Mo., Dee (David) Martin of Collinsville, and Cheryl (Chuck) Zinn of Longview, Texas; three brothers, Donald (Lois) McElwain of Penrod, Ky., Benny (Marilyn) McElwain of Penrod, Ky., and Russell (Frances) McElwain of Indianapolis, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was also a dear aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend to many.

Visitation was Feb. 29, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, and March 1, at First Baptist Church, Waterloo.

Funeral services were March 1, at the church, Pastor Larry Croy and Pastor Steve Neill officiating.

Interment followed at Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fairview Heights.

Memorials may be made to New Testament Baptist Church or Life Network of Southern Illinois.
