Darlyn M. Kohnz |Obituary

Darlyn M. Kohnz (nee Bertram), 91, of Waterloo, died Nov. 10, 2015, in Belleville.

She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Valmeyer, daughter of the late Joseph Bertram and Anna Bertram-Lauer (nee Fromme).

Darlyn was a member of the Valmeyer High School Class of 1942. In her younger years, Darlyn enjoyed ballroom dancing and her taste of music ranged from Elvis to country.

Darlyn  was a lifelong member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. Darlyn was a devoted mother whose focus was first and foremost on her family.

She enjoyed crafts, especially needle work, and was an unparalleled pie baker. Family get-togethers often found Darlyn playing pool or pinochle.

She is survived by her children Barbara A. Althoff, Bruce C. (Susan) Kohnz, and Glen J. (Marlene) Kohnz; grandchildren Mario (Connie) Hernandez, Michele (Tom) Carter, Andre (Emily) Hernandez, Adrien Hernandez, Rebecca Kohnz, Abby Kohnz, Davin Kohnz, and Mitchell Kohnz; great-grandchildren Kristina (Tom) Reynolds, Michael Hernandez, Austin Hernandez, Samantha Carter, Cameron Carter, Joseph Hernandez, William Zieger, Emma Hernandez, and Nick (Grace) Hernandez; great-great-grandchildren Aidan Hernandez, Landon Hernandez, Trentin Hernandez, Dominic Hernandez, and Eli Reynolds (due Jan. 2, 2016); nephews Mark (Teri) Bertram and Gregory (Penelope) Bertram; great-niece Faith; and great-nephews Mark Jr. and John.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Fred Lauer Jr., husbands Rayburn Althoff and Cletus J. Kohnz,  brother Earl Bertram and sister Virginia Bertram.

Visitation was Nov. 13-14, at Quernheim Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 14, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Waterloo, with Rev. Sebastian Ukoh, C.M. officiating.

Interment followed at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo.
