Carl “Bob” Asselmeier Sr. | Obituary

Carl “Bob” Asselmeier Sr., 83, died Aug. 31, 2012.

He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Valmeyer, son of the late Carl W. and Anna M. Asselmeier (nee Fischer.

He married the former Alice Coletta on April 17, 1953; she survives him.

Mr. Asselmeier was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War.

He was employed as a Postmaster at the North Muskegon (Mich.) Post Office for 34 years before retiring in 1988. He was a longtime member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church, a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #140 and American Legion Grand Haven, and a past member of Muskegon Elks and Muskegon Lions.

He was also an avid fisherman who enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading, and, foremost, his family.

Survivors include his wife; children Carl Jr. (Elizabeth) Asselmeier of Spring Lake, Mich., Richard Asselmeier of Muskegon, Mich., Alan (Kelly) Asselmeier of Plainwell, Mich., and Kay (Troy) Mumbry of Spring Lake, Mich.; grandchildren Jennifer, Carl III, Lenny, Rebecca, Katelyn, Sara, John and Alicia; great-grandchildren Lyla and Jasper; and brothers Clifford Asselmeier of Illinois, Clinton Asselmeier of Oregon, and Darryl (Janet) Asselmeier of Missouri.

A Masonic service was Sept. 5, at Clock Life Story Funeral Home, Muskegon, Mich.

Funeral services were Sept. 6, at McGraft Memorial Congregation Church, Rev. Dr. Gerald Wahr officiating.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Valmeyer.
